No pay-to-win

A browser strategy game where you can't buy your way to the top

Most “free” strategy games sell power: premium currency, paid boosts, energy timers you can skip for cash. Grymheld doesn't. It's completely free, and the only thing that decides who wins is strategy.

What “pay-to-win” really means

A game is pay-to-win when money buys an in-game advantage you can't reasonably earn by playing — faster progress, stronger units, extra resources or convenience that free players simply don't get. In a strategy game, that quietly rewrites the rules: your clever timing and economy management lose to someone's credit card. It's the fastest way to make good strategy feel pointless.

Grymheld's promise

What we do

  • Everything earned through play
  • One ruleset for everyone
  • Ranking decided by skill and activity
  • Optional “buy me a coffee” with no in-game perk

What we'll never add

  • Premium currency or paid boosts
  • Energy bars you pay to skip
  • Loot boxes or gacha
  • Stronger units behind a paywall

Why it makes the game better

When nobody can buy an edge, every fight is a fair test. Beating a bigger neighbour with a smarter army composition, out-producing a rival through better building order, or cracking Fort Karrath with a well-equipped General actually means something — because they earned it, and so did you. That's the game we want to make, and the reason there's no store button.

Frequently asked questions

Is Grymheld really free with no pay-to-win?

Yes. There is no premium currency, no subscription, no paid boosts and no loot boxes. Every building, unit, item and upgrade is earned through play. Nobody can pay to beat you.

How does the game make money then?

It doesn't need to — Grymheld is a solo passion project. If you enjoy it you can optionally 'buy the developer a coffee', but that grants zero in-game advantage.

Are there energy bars or timers that push me to pay?

No energy system and no pay-to-skip. Buildings and troops take real time, but you're never nudged toward a wallet to move faster.

Can free players compete at the top?

Completely. Since there's no paid power, the ranking reflects strategy, activity and smart decisions — not spending.

Can I play it for free on mobile too?

Yes — the full, free game runs in your phone's browser and installs as a PWA. No app-store purchases, ever.
